Audi RS6 Avant vs Audi RS Q8 vs Audi RS7 Sportback — Motor1 Three-Way Test

At the moment, Audi Sport has three very new, exciting performance cars; the Audi RS6 Avant, Audi RS7 Sportback and Audi RS Q8. All three of them use the same engine, make the same power and have mostly similar performance figures. They’re also within similar price ranges, so anyone that can afford one can afford all three. So which one do you get?

Motor1 recently put all three of those incredible machines together to see which of the top-dog Audi Sport cars is best.

Audi RS6 Avant

All three cars have the exact same powertrain; a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. They all use an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive. They all also get air suspension as-standard with hydraulically-linked Dynamic Ride Control as an option and all three have rear-wheel steering. So, it’s really just choose between body styles.

The Audi RS6 Avant is the cheapest of the three but it’s arguably the most interesting. Not only is it based on the A6, making it the smallest of the bunch, but it’s also the lower and more agile than the Audi RS Q8 while having more practicality than the RS7. So it’s a great best-of-both worlds option.

However, the Audi RS7 Sportback is the prettiest of the bunch (although, I personally think the RS6 looks cooler). Its sleek sportback styling is stunning and genuinely drops jaws. Plus, it’s still quite practical, thanks to its liftback tailgate. So it brings more style without suffering too much in terms of practicality.

While the Audi RS Q8 is a genuine SUV, so it rides a bit higher, giving it more ground clearance and has the most cargo space of the bunch. It’s also the fastest production SUV to record a lap time at the Nurburgring.

So of those three cars, which do you choose? Motor1 chose the Audi RS6 Avant and we’d have to agree. It’s easily the coolest car Audi currently sells and we’d have one in a heartbeat if we could.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
