Not that it needed one, especially at its market debut, but the latest iteration of Audi’s super wagon received a special edition in the United Kingdom. The RS6 Avant Launch Edition was a limited-run affair as only 110 cars were built to cater to the UK market, and YouTuber Mr JWW got the chance to check one out.
Finished in Navarra Blue with black accents, the performance wagon is essentially a high-end version of the RS6 Avant with a lot of the boxes on the options list ticked. It sits on 22-inch wheels and comes with a panoramic glass sunroof, while the sport exhaust is also part of the deal. Audi UK sweetened the pot with the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system and with a speed limiter loosened up to 174 mph (280 km/h) rather than the standard 155 mph (250 km/h).
While generally red brake calipers come on Audi RS models equipped with ceramic brakes, this RS6 Avant Launch Edition actually has the standard steel brakes. Navarra Blue wasn’t the only body finish available for the limited-run model as the car was offered with a total of five matte-effect paints, with all coming fitted with black oval exhaust tips as part of the aforementioned sport exhaust.
It’s worth mentioning the £101,700 RS6 Avant Launch Edition wasn’t the range-topping version of Ingolstadt’s super wagon as that role has been attributed to the £109,250 Vorsprung. The latter is still listed on Audi UK’s site and has even more standard equipment.
After dissecting the mean exterior design and high-tech cabin, Mr JWW shared his opinion behind the wheel of the RS6 Avant. He was particularly impressed by the power delivery of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, not necessarily in terms of actual horsepower, but the massive torque available at any time with virtually zero lag.
The car is not all sunshine and rainbows for Mr JWW as he argues the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission could’ve been a tad better. He went on to say a dual-clutch gearbox would have been a perfect fit for the marriage between the V8 and Quattro. Speaking of the all-wheel-drive system, he had nothing but praise for how grippy the car felt regardless of road conditions. It’s worth mentioning all UK-spec RS6 Avant cars come as standard with rear-wheel steering and a sport differential, which obviously help with traction and handling.
Overall, Mr JWW is a genuine fan of the speedy wagon and its do-it-all capabilities. Whether that means he’ll be buying one remains to be seen, but the YouTuber is in the market for a new daily driver. The RS6 seems like the obvious choice for yours truly.
