It’s no secret that North America draws the short straw when it comes to cool, fast Audis. Most of the Audi Sport lineup is not available in the us, including the Audi RS3 Sportback, Audi RS4 Avant and RS6 Avant. However, there is one very cool, very exciting car that we will be getting here, ‘Stateside. The Audi RS5 Coupe has just officially gone on sale in the US.
While the Audi RS5 Coupe isn’t the newest car in the Audi Sport lineup, it is the newest one to come to America. With its 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which makes 444 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, it’s also one of Audi’s fastest. According to the folks in Ingolstadt, the Audi RS5 Coupe can hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The only car in Audi’s lineup is the R8. That makes it the fastest car in the segment, faster even than the BMW M4 Competition Package and the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe.
What’s better than that is the value. Typically, Audi RS cars are almost too expensive. However, the brand-new Audi RS5 is actually a pretty good performance value. According to Audi, the new RS5 will start life at $69,900. We currently have an Audi S5 Coupe on test (review coming soon) and it’s as-tested sticker price is $64,000-ish. That means that the proper, hardcore Audi RS5 is only a few thousand dollars more than the relatively tame S5 Coupe. That makes the RS5 a pretty damn good deal.
We can’t wait to see the Audi RS5 Coupe here on American soil. It won’t be the first, as we received the last-gen RS5 as well, but it’s still a special feeling seeing a proper RS car here in the ‘States, as they aren’t very popular. Now Audi just needs to sell the RS4 Avant and RS6 Avant here and we’ll truly be happy.
