This new generation of Audi RS3 is seriously quick, far quicker than you might expect from a car of its size and price. However, it’s consistently exceeded expectations since it’s been on sale. Surely, though, there’s a line it can’t cross and it can’t beat its bigger brother, the Audi RS6 Avant, right?
In this new drag race video, we get to see just how fast the RS3 is, as it takes on the RS6. On paper, it’s a true David versus Goliath race. The Audi RS3 Sedan is significantly cheaper, has four fewer cylinders, and nearly 200 less horsepower. Though, it is lighter and it does have a quicker-shifting dual-clutch gearbox. So can it actually keep up with the monster RS6?
First, let’s check the specs. The Audi RS3 Sedan uses a 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder, which makes 401 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and all-wheel drive. While the Audi RS6 Avant uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 to make 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The RS6 is clearly the more powerful car and has far more torque, giving it a drag race advantage.
We’re very curious about the results of the drag races in this video, as the Audi RS3 Sedan demolishes the RS6. To be fair, I expected the RS3 to keep it tight and maybe even sneak a win, but not win by multiple car lengths. The RS3 is lighter but the RS6’s power-to-weight ratio is about the same and yet has far more torque. It’s especially odd when the RS6 dominated an RS3, and most other RS models, in a recent drag race from Carwow. So something’s fishy with this video. I wonder if the RS6’s tires were worn and had trouble in the wet conditions or maybe the RS3’s traction management is better in the wet. Either way, it’s odd to see the RS3 win so easily against a car that’s far more powerful.
