The RS3 is no doubt a force to be reckoned with in the compact segment, but pitting it against the mighty R8 in a quarter-mile comparison seems like a waste of time. Surely the inline-five sedan can’t hold a candle to the naturally aspirated V10 beast, right? That’s true when both cars are stock, but this RS3 Sedan is far from being the way it was when it rolled off the assembly line at the plant in Gyor, Hungary.
It may look fairly stock on the outside, but the real magic takes place inside and especially underneath the hood. For starters, the cabin has been stripped-out up to the point you can see the bare metal. The RS3 has been turned into a hardcore two-seater with not much else inside in an effort to shave off weight as much as possible.
The car’s owner did more than just put his high-performance sedan on a draconian diet as he also worked on the 2.5-liter TFSI. It’s been equipped with a TTE700 turbocharger developed by The Turbo Engineers specifically for this engine also installed in the TT RS. The car’s owner – YouTuber Vancity Audi – says a future video will provide details about how much power the engine delivers by putting the car on a dyno.
We have a rough estimate based on turbocharger’s manufacturer as TTE says it’s tested the engine at over 700 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters (590 pound-feet) of torque. Those are some insane numbers, boosting the RS3 Sedan’s output by 306 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft).
Running on E85 fuel and with launch control active, the pocket rocket did a quarter-mile comparison against an Audi R8 V10 Performance that was entirely stock, save for the carbon fiber rear wing. The numbers? The supercar completed the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in an impressive 3.05 seconds, but the heavily modified RS3 needed only 2.75 seconds. In the 60 to 130 mph (96 to 210 km/h) test, it was another win for the sedan as it completed the task in 5.84 seconds whereas the R8 took 7.97 seconds.
And now for the most important comparo, the quarter-mile time. The gorgeous R8 did it in 10.84 seconds at 129 mph (208 km/h), but as impressive as that might be, the RS3 was still faster. It completed the ¼ mile in an amazing 10.09 seconds at 141.4 mph (227 km/h).
We’ll be keeping an eye on Vancity Audi to find out the juicy power numbers generated by the car’s amped-up engine.
