Even though a new Audi RS3 is right around the corner, the outgoing model remains a desirable car among hot hatch fans. YouTubers don’t necessarily show much love to cars that have been around for more than a year or two since they tend to focus on the latest stuff, but the RS3 is an exception. It’s especially true if the high-powered Sportback comes with a tune from ABT. One such car was filmed by Gumbal having some fun in The Netherlands.
If you’re wondering what’s with the license plates, VD Akker is a Dutch dealer of high-end cars, including Bentley, Porsche, and of course, Audi. They actually have a bonkers RS6-R Avant for a cool €299,950, but I digress. Getting back to the RS3, it’s got the full ABT package, including the quad exhaust tips and carbon fiber upgrades inside and out.
Of course, the main highlight is the bump in power for the turbocharged inline-five engine. The 2.5 TFSI can be taken to 470 horsepower with the Power S kit, although we’re not sure why the video’s title and description say it’s got a nice round figure of 500 hp. The tuner’s site lists a torque figure of 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) to unlock some impressive performance for such a relatively small car.
The ABT Power S kit is more than just an ECU remap as it also involves a custom intercooler. With the upgrade installed, it will do 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and max out at a respectable 177 mph (285 km/h).
We can expect similar numbers from the next-generation Audi RS3 Sportback since the engine will likely be carried over with little changes. There could be something with more punch later in the model’s life cycle as German media reports an RS3 Performance will have as much as 450 hp. Meanwhile, the regular RS3 should come out by the end of the year or the beginning of 2021.
