It was only a couple of months ago when Audi introduced the S1 in both three- and five-door versions and it seems there are already talks about a more potent RS1 flavor. In an interview given to Motoring, the Audi S1 designer Frank Gruner was asked if he is busy drawing the lines of an RS1 and he responded with “wait and see”, indirectly confirming a new version to sit on top of the S1 is being analyzed.
If these speculations come true, the Audi RS1 will offer considerably more power than the S1 / S1 Sportback which packs a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 231 bhp and a peak torque of 370 Nm. Chances are that just like on the S1 the hotter RS1 will pack Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive arrangement as standard equipment.
This new pocket rocket might not be a fully-fledged RS1 as Audi could decide to roll out a limited-run special edition as “crazy” as the 2012 A1 Quattro. Whatever it will be, expect a significant premium over the S1 / S1 Sportback duo which is programmed to go on sale in Germany in the second half of the year for 29,950 euros for the three-door and 30,800 euros for the Sportback.
