We’ve had our suspicions that the upcoming Audi RS Q8 would make its debut at the 2019 LA Auto Show next month. However, it seems that it’s a certainty at this point. According to a recent report from German publication Auto Bild, the RS Q8 will be shown to the world on November 20, which is the first press day of the LA Auto Show.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as we assumed that’s what would happen. But it is interesting to hear an exact date. It also just makes sense for the Audi RS Q8 to launch in LA, of all places. Beverly Hills is packed full of massively overpriced, overpowered SUVs that won’t use more than a tenth of their power or fill a tenth of their cargo space. If there’s a place on Earth where monster SUVs are less needed yet more common, I’m not aware of it. So the Audi RS Q8 will fit in just fine, alongside the Lamborghini Uruses (Uri?), BMW X6 Ms, Range Rover SVRs and Mercedes-AMG G-Wagens.
When it debuts, the Audi RS Q8 will pack a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8. Whether it’s the 591 hp version from the Audi RS6 Avant or the 640 hp version from the aforementioned Urus, we’re not sure. We do know that it will pack some serious power, though, and should handle quite well. The RS Q8 is actually quite similar to the Urus, as they both share the same chassis and underpinnings. So it should be a surprisingly capable SUV. It won’t be as monstrous as the Urus but it should certainly haul ass.
The Audi RS Q8 won’t be the only four-ringed car debuting in LA. The upcoming Audi e-tron Sportback will also make its official debut. So the brand will have both a fuel-sucking SUV and a hyper-efficient EV crossover. That’s about LA in a nutshell.
