Audi RS E-Tron GT in Nardo Grey is when the future meets tradition: Video

Breaking with tradition, Audi Sport has dipped its toes in the EV pool by introducing a high-performance car that doesn’t have a combustion engine. No, we haven’t forgotten about the R8 E-Tron supercar from a few years ago, but that technically doesn’t count since it was a commercial flop, with fewer than 100 units ever sold. The RS E-Tron GT is the first true sporty EV from the Four Rings, but it’s still an Audi through and through.

In keeping with Audi’s heritage, the fully electric sedan twinned with the Porsche Taycan can be had in what is arguably one of the most desirable colors ever – Nardo Grey. Available as an option via the Audi Exclusive catalog for $3,900 in the United States, this lovely shade looks great on just about any car from Ingolstadt, including the RS E-Tron GT.

Our friend Auditography had the privilege of shooting this beauty on the streets of Amsterdam after borrowing the speedy EV from ABT Netherlands. We’re already missing the dual oval exhaust tips of RS models powered by gasoline engines as that would’ve made the RS E-Tron GT look even better, but their removal obviously goes with the territory since there’s no ICE under the hood.

A quick test to show off the capabilities of the dual electric motors enabled Audi’s athletic EV to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in three seconds flat while the 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) took just 9.92 seconds. That’s not too shabby for what is unquestionably a heavy car, tipping the scales at a hefty 5,174 pounds (2,347 kilograms) in this specification.

With Porsche already selling a long-roof Taycan Cross Turismo, we’re anxious to see whether that rumor about Audi coming out with an E-Tron Avant will pan out. A fully fledged RS version of the electric wagon would be the icing on the cake for the 637-horsepower electric machine as it would add practicality to what can be described as a four-door EV supercar.
