Audi has released a new video with the R8 LMX limited edition which will be production in a series of just 99 units. With prices starting at €210,000 in Germany, the LMX is perhaps the final bang for the current R8 as a new model is expected to come out in the following months or in the beginning of 2015. What sets this version apart is the adoption of laser headlight technology featuring four high-power laser diodes emitting white light at a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin.
These laser beams are automatically turned on once the car reaches 37 mph (60 km/h) and work together with a camera-based sensor that will detect other vehicle and alter the light pattern to “exclude them” while at the same time providing the R8 LMX driver with better “visibility and safety.”
Its heart and soul is the V10 5.2-liter engine, still naturally aspirated, delivering 570 PS and a maximum torque of 540 Nm. The motor is connected to a quattro system and a 7-speed S tronic gearbox which enables the high-performance coupe to do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 3.4 seconds on its way to a maximum speed of 199 mph (320 km/h).
In terms of design, the Audi R8 LMX limited edition wears an Ara Blue exterior paint scheme and has received a fixed rear wing together with carbon fiber flics and 19-inch alloys which are exclusive to this model. It also boasts a carbon fiber ceramic braking system, glossy black tailpipes while on the inside there’s a Fine Nappa leather upholstery, illuminated door sill plates, Sepang Blue contrast stitching, matte carbon fiber trim, an Alcantara headliner and Ara Blue accents.
