Audi has released the first teaser image depicting the all-new R8 supercar scheduled for a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Very few details have been released by Audi regarding their latest gem but we do know that it will come as standard with LED headlights featuring 37 LEDs per each headlight.
Those willing to pay more will be able to optionally order laser headlights featuring high-intensity laser diodes capable of providing an almost double range compared to the high-beam of the LED headlights. The more expensive headlight will come with a laser module operating four high-intensity laser diodes as well as a phosphor convert which will transform the blue light into pure white light.
These laser headlights will also boast a blue light signature to better differentiate from the standard LED headlights. There’s no word about the price tag but you can image these won’t come cheap while the visibility offered should mirror the laser headlights fitted onto the limited-run R8 LMX from last year.
The all-new R8 supercar will ride on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan and will likely be offered initially with an upgraded V10 5.2-liter naturally aspirated engine. An e-tron fully electric version will be available right away while later during the car’s life it should also get a TDI engine, a smaller turbocharged gasoline motor as well as a plug-in hybrid setup.
A full reveal is set for early March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show but chances are Audi will publish several teasers until then.
