FAW-Volkswagen Automobile has announced the latest Audi recalls in China are affecting 270,635 units of the A4. It was only several days ago when Audi said 850,000 A4s are going to be recalled over airbag issues and now Volkswagen Group’s joint venture with China’s FAW Group will recall a large number of A4s over the same problem, but the source of the airbags is not known at this moment although the coincidence is quite significant.
The announcement made this week by China’s watchdog comes less than two weeks after parent company Volkswagen disclosed plans to recall no less than 580,000 vehicles in China which need a repair to the suspension.
These latest Audi recalls are affecting 265,943 units of the China-made A4L built between May 25, 2012 and October 22, 2014. Moreover, it also involves 4,692 units of the A4 allroad variant which is being imported in China. The figures were published by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine from China.
It seems that some of the vehicles affected by the recall have problems with the software in the airbag system which could prevent them for being deployed in case of an accident.
