Sometimes it’s hard for wealthy enthusiasts to justify spending over $200,000 on the Audi R8 V10 Plus. It’s not that it’s a bad car and it’s not that it isn’t worth the money. It’s the fact that it’s priced in the same realm as cars from Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini. So many ealthy enthusiasts would rather have one of those aforementioned exotics over something with the same badge as an Audi A3 diesel. Obviously, we understand that its performance and tech is well worth the money. And, seemingly, so does Doug DeMuro, as evidenced in this latest video.
In this new video, DeMuro gives a comprehensive review of the Audi R8 V10 Plus, showing off all of its strange quirks and interesting features. Stuff like the funky turn signals, tiny trunk and almost useless cupholders are some of the funny bits about the R8 V10. Though, that’s where the silly stuff ends and where the genius stuff begins. Audi built some of the absolute best climate controls to ever be fitted to a supercar. They’re simple, cool looking and remarkably intuitive. The way the hood latch opens is also incredibly simple.
But the best part about the Audi R8 V10 Plus is its performance. The mid-engine Audi uses a 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10 engine that makes a whopping 610 hp. Mated to that engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. With launch control, the R8 V10 Plus is said to get from 0-60 mph in about 2.8 – 2.9 seconds, which makes it one of the fastest cars ever made. But its power and performance aren’t even the best part. That’s the noise.
Nail the throttle in the R8 V10 Plus and that glorious free-breathing V10 comes to life, making an incredibly scream and wail as it revs to its 8,250 rpm redline. It’s fantastic and intoxicating. You can see just how violent, yet wonderfully, the R8 accelerates by watching DeMuro’s face when it hits the throttle. It pins him back and seemingly takes his breathe away. In fact, he calls it the fastest car he’s ever driven.
When DeMuro gives the R8 his “Doug Score”, it gets a total of 71. Now, 71 doesn’t sound like all that much. Until you realize it’s the highest overall score of any car DeMuro’s tested. In fact, it got three points more than the Rolls Royce Wraith, which is an absolute brilliant car. So, yes, the Audi R8 V10 Plus is worth the money.
