Nine-times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen stars in this latest promotional clip for the Audi R8 LMX, a limited edition of the supercar which comes with laser headlight technology and is actually the second car in the world to feature such a system, after the BMW i8. Only 99 examples will be built and each one will carry a starting price in Germany of 210,000 EUR. Just like the car in the video, all of them will be painted in an Ara Blue hue and will come with a fixed rear wing and carbon fiber flics.
In the attached video, Tom Kristensen talks about the car’s design and highlights some features such as the carbon ceramic brake discs and the 19-inch alloy wheels which are exclusive to this model. On the inside it boasts Fine Nappa leather seats with Ara Blue accents and Sepang Blue contrasting stitching, while illuminated door sill plates, a matte carbon fiber trim and an Alcantara headliner are also on the menu.
The Audi R8 LMX has been fitted with laser headlights encompassing four high-power diodes emitting white light at a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin. These lights are automatically activated when reaching 60 km/h and work together with a camera-based sensor system capable of detecting other cars in order to adjust the light pattern so that it won’t bother traffic participants.
Motivation of the Audi R8 LMX is provided by the familiar V10 5.2-liter naturally aspirated engine outputting 520 PS and 540 Nm. All that power is transferred to the quattro all-wheel drive system through an S tronic gearbox that allows the vehicle to hit 100 km/h before topping out at 320 km/h.
