Audi R8 LMS Cup starting this month in Asia

This year’s edition of the Audi R8 LMS Cup in Asia will kick off in the March 21-22 weekend at Zhuhai, South China. Now in its fourth season, the competition will include up to 22 entrants in two sprint races on each of the six race weekends. For the first time ever, the drivers are going to race in Taiwan, alongside the usual venues in China, South Korea, Malaysia and Japan.

The Audi R8 LMS used in the competition has been improved for 2015 as it now boasts a launch control system as well as a lighter clutch while the rear wing has been moved further rearwards to improve downforce along with an optimized brake force distribution system.

This year’s R8 LMS Cup will feature a so-called Super Pole qualifying format held after the 15-minute qualifying session. The best eight drivers from the first qualifying session will compete in a second session of single timed laps. Starting this year, two tire sets for qualifying and race are allowed as opposed to previous seasons when only one set was available.
