Audi has released a rather peculiar promo clip showing an R8 giving birth to the RS3 Sportback. We weren’t expecting something so weird from the Ingolstadt-based automaker, but the ad is probably trying to say the RS3 has a lot in common with the R8 supercar even though in reality there aren’t that many similarities between the two.
They do share a quattro all-wheel drive system, but have entirely different engines as the RS3 Sportback uses a 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine whereas the R8 packs a much bigger V10 5.2-liter naturally aspirated motor.
The “world-beating car” with a “class-conquering” engine as Audi likes to talk about the hot hatchback is fitted with a 7-speed S tronic transmission and runs the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) journey in 4.3 seconds before topping out at an electronically capped 155 mph (250 km/h), but for more money Audi is willing to raise the limiter to 174 mph (280 km/h).
Deliveries of the Audi RS3 Sportback are scheduled to begin this summer. Don’t hold your breath for a more powerful version as Quattro GmbH technical development boss Stefan Reil said has denied the possibility of coming out with an RS3 Plus variant.
