The Audi R18 e-tron quattro successfully completed testing at La Sarthe in France ahead of the legendary Le Mans endurance race programmed for June 14 and 15. Audi fielded three hybrid sports cars which completed a total of 284 laps covering a distance of 3,870 km during the eight hours of testing.
The first four hours occurred in the morning when Lucas di Grassi/Loïc Duval/Tom Kristensen took the car number 1 for testing while Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Tréluyer in the number 2 car and Filipe Albuquerque/Marco Bonanomi in the third car further tested the vehicle. One of the objectives was to analyze the mechanically generated grip while the final aerodynamic configuration also played an important role.
In the first practice session, Marco Bonanomi managed to post the fastest time with a lap completed in 3 minutes and 23.799 seconds. All Audi drivers met the requirements established by the team’s engineers which allowed all three teams to use the afternoon hours for doing extensive tire tests with the Audi R18 e-tron quattro in order to find out the performance of these new tires over a longer period of time.
Out of the three teams, the Albuquerque/Bonanomi team was the best one as they managed to finish the testing session in third place, followed on fourth place by Di Grassi/Duval/Kristensen and on sixth place by Fässler/Lotterer/Tréluyer.
