This Audi quattro A1 Group B rally car will be auctioned in Goodwood by the Bohnams on March 21. Featuring chassis number 900012, it was built in the first quarter of 1982 and was used by Hannu Mikkola in the same year at the Monte Carlo Rally which he finished on second place behind Walter Rohrl’s Opel Ascona. Later on it was used for training into the 1983 and then it was transformed by Audi into a Group B eligible racecar.
It was then sold to a Finnish Volkswagen & Audi importer before ex SAAB rally driver Antero Laine bought it. Under the hood it gets a five-cylinder 2.1-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developing 200 bhp (149 kW) when configured as a road-legal car while in race specification the engine generates “considerably more.”
It should be mentioned this particular Audi quattro A1 Group B rally car helped Audi win the manufacturers’ championship back in 1982 and 1984 and also the driver’s championship in 1983 and 1984.
At the auction it is expected to get anything between £240,000 and £280,000.
