Audi Q8 rumored to come out in 2017

Audi is preparing a full crossover/SUV assault to join the existing Q3, Q5 and Q7 models. The most important of the bunch will be the large and luxurious Q8 which is likely to come out sometime in 2017 and will sit on top of the extended Q range that will also encompass Q1, Q2, Q4 and Q6 models. The expensive Q8 is rumored to have a starting price of approximately 50,000 pounds and will feature a five-door configuration and a five-meter length.

Responsible for the design will be a team led by Marc Lichte who is Audi’s new boss of the styling department and it is believed the car will look quite different than today’s Audis. Expect to find smaller side windows, a more aggressive front, an angled rear window and a more sloped roofline especially at the back.

The Audi Q8 is envisioned as a rival for the second generation BMW X6 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC and it will be offered with a wide array of gasoline and diesel V6 and V8 engines together with a plug-in hybrid and EV versions. Interestingly, the electric version is being envisioned as a competitor for the Tesla Model X, while on top of the range will be an RS version motivated by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter gasoline engine and priced from around 90,000 pounds.

Audi will use an evolution of the MLB architecture for the Q8 which is expected to start at less than 2,000 kg for the lightest version thanks to a more extensive use of CFRP, aluminum and high strength steels.
