Audi Q8 55 TFSI e vs Range Rover Sport P400e

The new Audi Q8 55 TFSI e is the brand’s latest plug-in hybrid SUV and it could be Audi’s best plug-in hybrid model yet. However, it’s not the only stylish plug-in hybrid SUV, as the new Range Rover P400e also packs a clever powertrain and stunning good looks. But which one’s best? Auto Express recently found out.


Before we get into what AE found during their test, let’s take a look at the specs. The Audi Q8 TFSI e uses a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 paired with an electric motor and an 18 kW battery to make 376 horsepower. Despite its hefty curb weight, it’s capable of 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds and gets a max all-electric range of 28 miles (WLTP-rated). In the UK, it starts at £75,935.

While the Range Rover P400e uses a 2.0 liter turbo-four with an electric motor and 13 kW battery to make 398 horsepower. Even though it has more power, it’s a tick slower, hitting 62 mph in 5.9 seconds and has an electric range of 25 miles. Pricing starts at £75,495 in the UK.


So how do the two cars compete? The Audi Q8 TFSI e sports the smoother hybrid powertrain of the two. It feels more potent, accelerating the monster SUV with a bit more ease than the Range Rover, and it’s smoother to engage/disengage the V6 engine. It’s also a bit more engaging to drive, with slightly sharper steering than the Range Rover.

However, the Range Rover is still quick, only being a tenth of a second behind the Audi to 62 mph. Plus, it’s more comfortable and refined, due to its fantastic air suspension. Also, thanks to Range Rover’s fabulous Terrain Response system, it’s better off road as well.


It’s a tough call between these two cars, as they’re both really good at they’re jobs, both have lovely cabins, are both supremely comfortable, and both very stylish. Check out Auto Express’ review to find out which takes the win.
