The Audi Q8 has been reconfirmed once again and is estimated to go on sale within the next three years as a range-topping Q model. Talking about the vehicle, Audi’s technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg said that it will be “more emotional and more sporty” than the second generation Q7 upon which it will be based. The model is set to compete directly with the BMW X6 as well as the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe set to go on sale next year.
According to Audi, the vehicle is going to be 5 meters long and it will adopt a more coupe silhouette compared to the Q7. It will ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform and will be offered with several V6 and V8 gasoline & diesel powertrains. Chances are there is also going to be a plug-in hybrid version while an e-tron full electric variant could also be in the works to go head to head with the Tesla Model X set to go on sale in the second half of 2015.
The Audi Q8 will reportedly carry a starting price of £50,000 for the base version while the RS Q8 is set to cost £90,000 and pack a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine.
