Audi Q5 teased ahead of Paris debut

There are several big debuts from several different automakers slated for the 2016 Paris Motor Show. In a couple of weeks, Paris will be buzzing with news of many new and exciting cars. One of which will be the new, second-generation, Audi Q5.

But before we get a real look at the new Q5, Audi has given us a small teaser image of the new taillights. The image is of just the left taillight, with the hashtag #Qriosity. In the taillight, it seems to have OLED technology, similar to the brand-new Audi TT RS.

We know that the new Audi Q5 will take much of its design inspiration from the Audi Q7 and will be more upmarket than before. Audi wants the Q5 to be more luxurious than sporty, leaving the latter for the Audi Q2. It also wants to create a distinct difference between the Q3 and Q5, so it’s making the Q5 a higher-end vehicle than it was before. The new Q5 should also employ the brand’s new signature singleframe grille and other Q7 design cues.

The new Audi Q5 will be based on the brand’s new MLB platform, the same one that underpins the Audi A4 and Q7. It will also be available in front-wheel drive form, for the first time ever. But expect that to only be in Europe, as Quattro will likely be standard here in the ‘States. Engine options will likely be Audi’s typical suite of 2.0 liter turbocharged engines, both petrol and diesel. Though, the 2.0 TFSI 252 hp four-cylinder petrol engine is likely to be the only on making it ‘Stateside. Being that this engine is excellent in the new A4, that’s no hardship. All engines will be mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox.
