Audi is on the verge of introducing a new electric SUV concept, but that didn’t stop the Ingolstadt-based marque from releasing yet another teaser video. We’re being reminded the Q4 Sportback E-Tron will receive its world premiere on July 7 during a livestream hosted on multiple online platforms, including YouTube and the company’s own AudiMedia.tv.
This new 20-second clip allows us to take a peek at the LED light signature of the zero-emissions concept, revealing it will be the latest to adopt a full-width light bar at the back. For a brief moment, we can catch a glimpse of the Audi Virtual Cockpit, which is giving us the impression it’s more evolved compared to what you find in today’s production cars carrying the Four Rings.
Having seen last year’s Q4 E-Tron concept, it’s not all that hard to imagine how the equivalent Sportback will look seeing as how the biggest change on the outside will be the modified roofline. A look at the Q3 and Q3 Sportback as well as the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback pairs gives us an idea of what to expect from the latest concept.
More than just for show, the concept is expected to morph into a road-going model as early as 2021 and ride on the same MEB platform as the conventionally styled model and the Volkswagen ID.4 – both due to premiere later this year. With the regular Q4 E-Tron expected to cost roughly $45,000, its sleeker counterpart will probably cost a few thousand dollars more while remaining below the $50,000 mark.
These two new electric SUVs from Audi will be positioned below the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback as part of the company’s EV onslaught, which is said to include an A9 E-Tron due in 2024. We’re also hearing rumors of an A2 revival sans the combustion engine, but it remains to be seen. Officially, we know Audi plans 20 EVs and 10 PHEVs by 2025, following a massive €37-billion investment in R&D, with €12 billion dedicated to electrification.
