Audi just took some of the wrapping off of its Q4 e-tron this morning, showing off its exterior in camouflage and its interior in its entirety. It also released some of the options and technologies that will be available for the upcoming electric crossover. However, Auto Express, as well as a few other publications, were lucky enough to test drive an Audi Q4 e-tron prototype.
In this new review, Auto Express seems happy with the new Audi Q4 e-tron, which is exciting to hear. After the Volkswagen ID.4 received some lukewarm reviews, we were nervous that the Q4 e-tron might suffer the same fate and be just another bland EV crossover. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
After driving the Q4 e-tron prototype AE claims that it feels more like an Audi SQ5 than the Volkswagen ID.4. “Alongside the great motorway manners, and tidy handling on country roads, it seems to shrink and become agile around town too.” said Auto Express’ Thomas Geiger.
That’s incredibly refreshing to hear. After hearing that, we’re actually willing to bet that the Audi Q4 e-tron drives better than the Audi SQ5 and is more fun. Thanks to a far lower center of gravity, rear-wheel drive-bias, and instant electric torque, the we reckon that the Q4 e-tron could be one of the most fun SUVs in Audi’s stable.
Sure, it’s still slow, with only around 300 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of around six seconds, but that’s enough to be mild-hatch quick and the instantaneous nature of its torque will help make it feel a bit quicker. What’s more important than power, though, is agility and fun and it seems that the Audi Q4 e-tron delivers in both regards, or at least more than we thought it would.
Combine that agility with its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and impressive tech and the new Q4 is going to be the best buy of the entire Audi crossover range. Electric or not.
