X-Tomi Design has digitally imagined the A9 based on the recently unveiled Audi Prologue concept. This speculative render shouldn’t come as a surprise because chances are Audi is planning a model to go up against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and it could very well receive the A9 moniker and will likely command a significant premium over the next generation A8 set to go on sale in 2016.
The long and elegant coupe has all the ingredients necessary to face the S-Class Coupe and chances are the real deal will come out either in 2017 or 2018. The aforementioned A8 will be the first model from Ingolstadt to adopt the new styling language previewed by the Audi Prologue concept which represents the first styling created since Marc Lichte took over the position of chief designer a few months ago.
The Audi A9 will be largely based on the next-gen A8 so it will carry over the engines and could spawn a hotter range-topping S9 version with as much as 600 bhp from a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine to enable the model rival the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe. Both the A8 and A9 will utilize the MLB Evo platform which will comprise a more extensive use of aluminum, composite materials and high-strength steels to lower weight as much as possible, while carbon fiber could also be used to shave off even more weight.
