According to a new report, Audi is allegedly working on a new electric vehicle which will be commercialized with the “A2Q” moniker. It was almost three years ago when the German marque unveiled the A2 concept but nothing materialized because Audi didn’t decide to launch a production version since it would have implied high costs. According to AutoBild, the model is back in the pipeline and could be launched in 2018.
Details are scarce at the moment but it is believed the car will wear the “A2Q” designation because Alfa Romeo acquired the “Q2” and “Q4” names. The model is expected to ride on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and will reportedly come with an electric powertrain capable of providing the vehicle with a maximum range of 310 miles (500 km) before running out of juice.
On a related note, AutoBild also says Audi is currently developing an electric variant of the forthcoming Q6. This new model is slated to come out sometime in 2017 and it should offer a more than generous range of 434 miles (700 km).
Besides the A2Q and electric Q6, Audi has already confirmed plans for a flagship SUV with the “Q8” designation which will also spawn a hotter RS version and will ride on the MLB Evo platform.
