Now that we’ve finally seen the brand-new 2018 Audi A8, the car that will supposedly be the most technologically-advanced car on the road, naturally there are quite a lot of what-ifs for its future. Fans and enthusiasts alike want to know what will become of the Audi S8 and if there will be any other future variants. We’ve already seen a render of a possible Audi RS8, which would be the highest-performing variant of the A8 if it ever gets made. However, such an RS8 will likely never exist. But, a car like the A8 Coupe or A8 Sportback could be a possibility for the future. Both of which were recently rendered by X-Tomi.
Pictured above is the Audi A8 Coupe render and its design language looks very similar to that of the Audi A5 Coupe. While that’s no bad thing, it looks a bit simple. Cars in that segment, such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the future BMW 8 Series, are very high-end and very premium looking. While this A8 Coupe doesn’t look bad at all, it actually looks quite good, it’s just not as special looking as the other cars that it would have to compete with. We’re not so sure that the A8 has the design language for a coupe. It doesn’t really matter, though, as Audi hasn’t made any indications of ever making such a thing.
The second render is of an Audi A8 Sportback. While we like this idea, and it could create an S8 Sportback as well, this is probably won’t happen either. Sportback models are typically designed to add practicality to traditional two-door coupes. The idea is to take a coupe-like design, stretch it out a bit and give it a lift-back tailgate. This keeps the profile in keeping with a coupe’s but gives it the extra practicality of a four-door car and a larger trunk, thanks to the lift-back tailgate. However, the Audi A8 is already a sedan and doesn’t really need any added practicality. Plus, practicality isn’t really the largest priority for buyers in this segment. It does look cool, though.
What do you think, should Audi make either of these two cars?
