It’s safe to say it was a very busy Thursday for Audi in Austria today as the company not only did launch a V6 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel engine, but they also announced a new S tronic transmission. The latter will be offered exclusively for front-wheel drive cars that are powered by a longitudinal engine, one example would have to be the A4 pictured here which is set to receive an all-new generation in the months to come.
This newly developed S tronic gearbox has a dual-clutch hardware arrangement and promises to be not only “extremely sporty” but also “very comfortable” at the same time. Moreover, Audi says the gearbox manages to provide “high efficiency” and in some applications it has slashed off 10 grams per kilometer.
The German marque has not provided an exact timetable as to when the aforementioned V6 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel engine and this S tronic transmission will be effectively available but chances are they will come in the months to come.
Audi has made a tradition from introducing new or updated engines and gearboxes at the Vienna Motor Symposium in Austria as back in 2009 they launched the 5-cylinder TFSI, followed a year later by the 3.0 TDI. In 2011 they brought the 3.0 TDI biturbo and the 1.8 TFSI while in 2012 the 4.0 TFSI was unveiled. Finally, at last year’s event they launched the V6 TDI for the R18 e-tron quattro.
