Audi has released the Awards ad which refers to the A3 as the winner of three distinct awards: 2014 World Car of the Year, Car and Driver Comparison Test and Edmunds.com Top Rated Award. The vehicle depicted in the video is the U.S.-spec A3 Sedan which has a starting price of $29,900 for the Premium trim and the 1.8 TFSI engine.
Although not very popular in United States yet, a diesel engine is also available for the model in the form of a 2.0 TDI which starts at $32,600. The four-cylinder turbodiesel is capable of developing 150 bhp between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 236 lb-ft available in the 1,750 – 3,000 rpm range. It allows the A3 Sedan to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in 8.1 seconds before topping out at 130 mph. Power is sent to the front wheels exclusively through a dual-clutch, six-speed transmission.
If you would rather have the 1.8 TFSI, it should be mentioned this motor puts out 170 bhp between 4,500 rpm and 6,200 rpm and 200 lb-ft in the 1,600 – 4,000 rpm range. It works with the same transmission and has the same top speed. There’s also the S3 Sedan from $41,100 which has a 2.0-liter TFSI engine rated at 292 bhp and 280 lb-ft. This variant will do 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and a 155 mph top speed.
