When the Audi e-tron was first revealed, the world knew exactly which car the folks in Ingolstadt was targeting — the Tesla Model X. Sure, BMW is working on an electric SUV and so too is Mercedes-Benz. Jaguar also already has the I-Pace. But it’s the one from Silicon Valley that Audi wants to take on more than any of them because it’s the most established. So how does the e-tron take on the Model X head-to-head? Auto Express recently found out.
In this test, the Audi e-tron 55 Quattro took on the Tesla Model X 100D. Now, that’s not exactly an apples-to-apples test, as the e-tron more comparable with the Model X 70D, in terms of range, performance and, most importantly, price. The as-tested e-tron came in at £68,020, while the Model X wore a sticker price of £82,350. That gives the Model X an edge in terms of range and performance but the e-tron an edge in terms of value.
So which one was deemed the better car. Well, because it’s very interesting, we’ll tell you that the Audi e-tron actually beat the more famous Tesla in this test. However, we won’t give you AE’s reasoning because it’s worth reading their article. However, it is fascinating to read that there are a lot of aspects of EV driving that the Audi e-tron is better at than the Tesla Model X.
In the Tesla’s defense, the e-tron is a lot newer and Audi had the chance to benchmark the Model X. However, it’s still impressive to see the newcomer take on the old veteran and win. It also shows that, despite the e-tron being its first EV, Audi seems to know a thing or two about electric mobility. And it’s only going to get better as Audi moves toward EV platforms, rather than using modified existing platforms. So Audi is off to a very good start.
