At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the World Car Awards announced their top three finalists for the World Car of the Year. The three finalists will be shown at the 2019 New York Auto Show, where the winner will be revealed. Of the three finalists is the Audi e-tron SUV, which has a good shot at taking the win.
Though, it won’t be easy, as the other two cars are excellent as well. One of the other top three finalists is the Jaguar I-Pace, another all-electric SUV. To be honest, the I-Pace and Audi e-tron are the favorites to win, as they’re both electric and quite revolutionary. Plus, the I-Pace is gorgeous and thrilling to drive, so it might have the edge. Still, the e-tron has more range and a faster charging battery, so it’s more technically impressive.
The third and final finalist is more traditional: the Volvo S60/V60. Either in sedan or wagon form, respectively, the Volvo S60 is a brilliant overall sedan. It looks great, has a fantastic interior and uses some innovative powertrains, including some hybrid options. So it’s also a great choice for WCOTY, if it were a different year.
With two all-electric SUVs coming from mainstream brands and offering more than 200 miles of range, we don’t see a typical gasoline/diesel-powered sedan taking the crown this year. It’s going to be either the Jaguar I-Pace or the Audi e-tron and whichever one actually takes the win, it’s well deserved. We’re excited to see which car wins and to see them in person at the NY Auto Show, where the winner will be crowned.
That’s not the only category in which Audi is nominated, though, and it’s not even the only nomination for the Audi e-tron. Audi’s EV SUV is also a finalist for the Green Car of the Year award, while both the Audi A7 and Q8 are finalists for the Luxury Car of the Year award. So it’s a big year for Audi.
