In just a few days, the first press days for the 2019 LA Auto Show will be underway. During that first day, we’re going to see the unveil of the next all-electric four-ringed product — the Audi e-tron Sportback. To build some hype, Audi has released a teaser image of the Sportback’s Matrix LED headlight.
As the second all-electric model from Audi, the e-tron Sportback is an important car. While the standard e-tron SUV is a great luxury EV, it lacks a bit in the excitement department, both in terms of styling and driving dynamics. We know that the Audi e-tron Sportback should fix at least one of those issues.
Being a “Sportback”, this new car will essentially be a “coupe” version of the current e-tron SUV. So it will have a more aggressively raked roofline and some more muscular rear haunches. While SUV “coupes” aren’t always the best looking of vehicles, Audi actually seems to be quite good at making them, considering the Audi Q8 and Q3 Sportback are among the better looking one on the market. So the Audi e-tron Sportback should actually look quite good.
As for how it drives, it’s not likely to be any different from the standard car. We’re hopeful that Audi makes some changes to its handling and dynamics, as the standard e-tron SUV is a bit bland to drive, we’re not expecting many mechanical changes, if any at all.
Still, the Audi e-tron Sportback will bring some added style and flair to an already good EV SUV and could help bring more customers over to e-tron. Its unique styling might be enough to convince customers to make the switch to fully electric. After all, style and excitement drive sales more than spec sheets and “dynamics”.
The Audi e-tron Sportback won’t be the only big debut for the four-ringed brand in sunny Los Angeles but it will likely be the most important.
