Audi has published additional teaser images of the 2015 R8, this time showing a camouflaged prototype. In exactly one week from today, the much awaited second generation of Ingolstadt’s supercar will receive its premiere at the 85th edition of the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in the second half of the year.
Despite the full body camouflage, it’s easy to notice the new R8 will adopt an evolutionary design which will keep the model instantly recognizable but the styling will be a little bit sharper and more angular. The model will ride on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan which will enable a 66 kg weight loss compared to the outgoing model, despite being 39mm wider at 1944mm. Overall length will remain intact at 4444mm but the height has decreased by 9mm to 1241mm.
Gone is the V8 4.2 engine as initially the new R8 will get only the V10 5.2 engine developing 532 bhp & 398 lb-ft in the standard version and 601 bhp & 413 lb-ft in the Plus model. The latter will sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in a mere 3.2 seconds, thus making it 0.3s quicker than its predecessor while top speed will increase by 8 mph (13 km/h) to an impressive 205 mph (330 km/h).
The 2015 R8 will also be available from day one in an e-tron fully electric version which will have a range of more than 249 miles (400 km). Later on, the supercar could gain a V6 engine with at least 400 bhp and there are also talks about a TDI-powered model and a plug-in hybrid derivative.
