An Audi representative has announced an A9 model is not entirely ruled out so it could happen sooner or later. In an interview with InAutoNews, the source within Audi who wished to remain anonymous said “the A9 is not an approved carline as of yet, but never say never.” If such a model will ever materialize, one possible candidate would be a two-door coupe version of the A8 which would compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
The Audi Prologue piloted driving concept unveiled at last month’s NAIAS could probably be considered as a sneak preview for an A9 Coupe. What we do know for sure is that the Prologue is a first sign of a revised design language from Audi which will make its debut on a production model with next year’s next generation A8 flagship model.
If green-lighted for production, the A9 model will probably be slighter larger than the A8 and needless to say it will also be more luxurious and expensive. It could be one of the new models Audi plans to add to its lineup to achieve the objective of boost range from 50 to 60 models by the end of the decade.
