Audi is celebrating an important milestone for the company as they recently managed to build the 500,000th A1. The smallest model to wear the four ring logo was introduced in 2010 and since then it has been built exclusively at the factory in Brussels, Belgium. Sales of the model weren’t that good in the A1’s first months on sale, especially if we compare it to the MINI. However, as the months passed by, Audi managed to sell more and more units and now they are celebrating the 500,000th milestone.
The plant in Brussels assembles 520 units every day in a two-shift operation, with the employees having to work with no less than 4,800 parts that come from 760 suppliers, with some of these components being delivered directly to the assembly line. 25 percent of the cars built at the factory are configured in right-hand drive as these units are sold to regions such as Asia, Africa, Ireland and the Commonwealth countries.
White is the most popular car selected by an Audi A1 customer as 34 percent of the vehicle have this finish, while 25 percent of them come in black. 11 percent of the cars have a red look while 40 percent of all come with a two-tone body hue. The most popular market for the city car is Germany, followed by United Kingdom and France, while Belgium is on eighth place.
