Audi AI:TRAIL Quattro Concept — 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show

One of the more intriguing cars to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show was the Audi AI:TRAIL Quattro Concept. It’s a car that was sort of unexpected, even though we knew it was coming. Well, we knew Audi was going to debut some sort of off-road concept but we didn’t know it would be a four-motor electric dune buggy from the future.

The Audi AI:TRAIL Quattro is one of the coolest concepts we’ve seen in a long time. Not only is an intelligent and forward thinking electric vehicle for the future but it’s also a kick-ass off-roader with some genuinely cool rugged features. It combines the best of both worlds into one really fun concept car.

So the body is a little four-seat pod that has four massive wheels and tires to ride on. Because of its design and all-electric powertrain, it has an enormous amount of glass, giving passengers excellent visibility. And that’s an important aspect of the Audi AI:TRAIL.

According to Audi design boss Marc Lichte, the AI:TRAIL is designed to take its occupants deep into nature to view and explore it. So all of that glass acts creates a viewing suite for the nature outside the car.

It also has some really unique features as well, features that would likely never make it to a production car. For instance, rather than headlights, two drones detach from the roof of the car and shine light ahead of it from above. In theory, the drones would just follow the car, continuously shining light ahead. That’s pretty amazing, even if it’s absurd and will almost certainly never exist.

Overall, the Audi AI:TRAIL is one of the cooler concepts from any brand in a long time and it was certainly one of the most interesting cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show. So check it out in the gallery below.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
