Audi has high ambitions as far as the second half of the 2014 DTM season is concerned, starting with Spielberg (August 1-3) where they want to grab their first win of the season. The qualifying session is programmed for Saturday at 18:00 CEST for the sixth round of the season effectively marking the second half of this year’s DTM championship.
Audi will attack the win with Mattias Ekström (2004 & 2007 DTM champion) who is currently on the second place in standings, being „within striking distance” of the leader Marco Wittmann while in the manufacturers’ standings Audi is on top of the list. The circuit in Spielberg is 4.326-km long which makes it the third longest one in the DTM calendar and over the years has proven to be a good venue for Audi.
When the track was reopened two years ago, the first two victories were obtained by Audi and now they are aiming for another win on the Red Bull Ring which would also be the first of the season. The circuit is considered as being quite challenging due to its configuration which includes fast and slow combinations of turns as well as long straights. In addition, DTM drivers will also have to withstand vertical differences with a maximum incline of 12 percent and a maximum drop of 9.3 percent.
