Few enthusiasts get all hot and bothered at the idea of an entry-level Audi A6. Not that it’s a bad car but it’s a big, heavy car with a four-cylinder engine and not much performance. However, for the 2021 model year, the entry-level Audi A6 45 TFSI will get some added style, to spice things up a bit, in the form of an as-standard Black Optics Package.
Mechanically, the A6 45 TFSI stays mostly the same, which isn’t a bad thing. As-standard, it gets a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 261 horsepower (a 13 horsepower bump) and 273 lb-ft of torque. It also still gets a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive as standard kit. Progressive steering, which provides a steering ratio that becomes more direct as the steering angle changes, is also standard.
The big news, though, is the Black Optics Package, which now comes equipped on all Audi A6 45 TFSI models. That brings a black finish to the grille surround, air intakes, mirror housings and window trim. It also replace the old walnut interior trim with Fine Grain Ash natural wood inlays and gives the cabin a black headliner. If you want an even sportier look and feel, 20″ wheels and sport suspension are offered with the optional Sport Package.
All of the aforementioned as-standard equipment, along with the newly added Black Optics Package, is included in the $55,400 base price of the Audi A6. That makes the A6 one of the better-equipped cars in the segment and a great value. If you’re looking for a premium sedan and prioritize style over performance, the entry-level A6 is now a very compelling option. If you still want sportiness, you’ll have to opt for a more expensive model but if style is your thing, you no longer have to spend any extra to get it.
