Up until now, the North American market has been devoid of the Audi S5 Sportback. The first-gen S5 Sportback was even so rare in Europe, its only market, that many American enthusiasts were unaware of its existence at all. However, that’s all about to change. Audi’s four-door variant of the S5 will be making its way to American dealers this Spring.
Audi announced that the S5 Sportback would be making its way to America months ago and then again in this year’s Super Bowl commercial. However, a date was never set. Now, we know that the S5 Sportback will be hitting American roads just in time for flowers to bloom.
The Audi S5 Sportback will bring a starting price of $55,375 and that will get customers the Premium Plus trim. This will bring a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine that makes 354 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque that should get the S5 Sportback from 0-60 mph in around 4.5 seconds. Expect it to be a bit faster than that, though, as Audi is always conservative with its performance figures. That engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, not the seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch as in the standard A5.
All models will come with a power-folding rear tailgate, LED headlights and taillights, a power sunroof as well as diamond-stitched sport seats. Customers who opt for the Prestige trim will get more options and technology as standard but will have to pay a premium for it, to the tune of $59,775.
We can’t wait to see the Audi S5 Sportback on US soil, as it’s always seemed like a bit of a myth to American enthusiasts. Now, American customers will be able to finally get their hands on one of Audi’s best performance/practicality combinations.
