Come 9:15 PM CEST (Central European Summer Time) tomorrow, June 2, Audi will be debuting the upcoming Audi A5 Coupe at the Audi Forum and will be broadcasting it live, via satellite, on the internet.
When the Audi A5 debuts, Walter de Silva’s beautiful A5, the current-generation model, will be lost to the past. The current-generation Audi A5 is still one of the best looking cars on the road, so its replacement may come with a heavy heart. However, there is still a lot to be hopeful for, as the new Audi A5 will usher in a new and improved era for every Audi fan’s favorite coupe.
We recently drove the current generation Audi A5, to get a refresher of it before it’s gone, and realized that, while still beautiful, is in desperate need of an update. While its interior is still a nice place to sit, it’s subpar in comparison to the new Audi A4, a car which will be the basis for the new A5’s cabin. It will also be receiving the brand-new 2.0 liter TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which makes 252 hp, and will allow for the Audi A5 Coupe to get from 0-60 mph in around 5.2 seconds.
But more important that all of that is the new A5’s chassis.
The new Audi A5 Coupe will be built on Audi’s new MLB architecture, the same one that underpins the new A4 and Q7. This will allow for the new A5 to be lighter, stiffer and more dynamic that the model it will be replacing. Its new suspension, which features a new five-link setup at the front, will allow it to handle more sharply and understeer less than the current model.
The new A5 will also come with all of the new technology that comes with the A4, such as the Virtual Cockpit, autonomous driver aids and the latest generation of Audi’s MMI system. We’ll have the full details on the next-generation Audi A5 tomorrow, when it debuts in Ingolstadt. For info on how to watch the debut live, check below:
