Most of the images and videos we’ve seen so far with the new Audi A3 showed the premium Sportback in mundane white and black shades. Get ready for a splash of color as the VW Golf’s fancy brother has arrived at a dealer in Stockholm, Sweden with a striking Tango Red paint job. It’s one of the several optional metallic paint jobs the company is offering and we’d argue it suits the compact hatch quite nicely.
This particular A3 Sportback in Tango Red filmed by YouTuber splice77 is a lesser version since it lacks the S Line goodies and has the base 17-inch wheels. Nevertheless, it’s a posh-looking hatchback in the Advanced trim line representing a step above the entry-level specification. You can set the two apart by checking out the silver accents and the titanium black radiator grille with a chrome frame of the more expensive variant.
As far as the engine is concerned, the “35 TFSI” model designation means it’s got the turbocharged four-cylinder 1.5-liter unit with 150 horsepower on tap. Output is channeled to the front wheels as Audi said the Quattro-equipped A3 models will arrive at a later date, with the S3 and RS3 once again sitting at the top of the range.
The only major drawback of the A3’s exterior design is the implementation of fake air vents at the front and rear, which we’re hoping will be solved with the hot hatch versions of the new A3 Sportback. That being said, Audi’s official preview of the S3 showed that while the chunky front air vents will be functional, those faux rear air inlets will remain.
We’ve learned to get used to the fake exhaust tips so they’re not bothering us as they used to, although it’s worth mentioning Audi is debating whether to keep them or not on future cars.
