The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron is being showcased in a new video recorded in Vienna, Austria. The model represents Audi’s first ever series production plug-in hybrid vehicle featuring a 4-cylinder, 1.4-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine teamed up with an electric motor. The conventional engine develops 150 PS (110 kW) while the electric motor generates an additional 102 PS (75 kW), with the combined output standing at 204 PS (150 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm).
All that power is transferred to the front axle with help from a dual-clutch six-speed e-S tronic gearbox allowing the model to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 7.6 seconds before topping out at 138 mph (222 km/h). More importantly, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron has an average fuel consumption of only 1.5 liters / 100 km (156.8 mpg US or 188.3 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions of just 35 g/km.
It’s a very versatile car as the driver can select to use the five-door hatchback running only on gasoline, on electric power and in hybrid mode. When relying only on the electric motor, the vehicle has a maximum range of 31 miles (50 km) during which it can hit a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h).
The attached video was released earlier this week, shortly after the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron was internationally launched.
