It was March 2013 when we saw the Audi A3 e-tron in production guise at the Geneva Motor Show and now the electrified five-door Sportback version has reached United Kingdom market where it carries a starting price of £34,950 on-the-road. Its heart and soul is a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine producing 150 PS (110 kW) which works with an electric motor rated at 102 PS (75 kW).
Thanks to this hardware arrangement, the model provides a generous combined output of 204 PS (150 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) delivered to the front axle with help from a six-speed e-S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. It needs a decent 7.6 seconds to cover the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run and it will keep on accelerating until it hits a top speed of 138 mph (222 km/h).
What really manages to impressive is the fuel consumption of only 1.5 liters / 100 km in the combined cycle with corresponding CO2 emissions of just 35 g/km. The Audi A3 e-tron can be driven in hybrid, gasoline or electric modes and when using only the electric motor it can cover distances of up to 31 miles (50 km/h) during which the top speed is of 81 mph (130 km/h).
Audi has already announced other e-tron models will be launched in the near future.
