Audi UK has decided to expand the A3 Cabriolet lineup by adding a new entry-level 4-cylinder 1.6-liter TDI engine which produces 109 bhp and 184 lb-ft of torque. This engine can only work with a 6-speed manual gearbox and allows the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds before topping out at 200 km/h. More importantly, it’s the most economical model in the range since it’s capable of returning 74.2 mpg UK in the combined cycle with corresponding CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.
There’s also a 30 Nm increase for the 1.8 TFSI quattro version which means the torque figure has increased to 280 Nm while the horsepower level has remained unchanged at 178 bhp. The added oomph has slashed 0.2 seconds from the 0-100 km/h sprint so the car now needs 7.6 seconds for this task. Top speed stands at 234 km/h while fuel economy in the combined cycle is of 42.8 mpg UK with 154 g/km of CO2 emissions.
Audi is now offering its dual-clutch S tronic gearbox for the 1.4 TFSI model that has cylinder deactivation technology and also for the 148 bhp version of the 2.0 TDI. Those who want this transmission should prepare to pay an additional 1,480 pounds over the standard model.
