Audi A1 Sportback by ABT is the closest we’ll get to an Audi S1

At the moment, Audi has now plans to create an S1 hot-hatchback based on the standard A1. While unfortunate, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a hot-hatch Audi A1 if that’s something you want. That’s because the folks at ABT Sportsline can help tweak and upgrade your A1 to feel sportier and more exciting, without having to wait for the unlikely possibility of an S1.

If you sprung for the Audi A1 ’40’ TFSI, which comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, you can get a power bump from ABT. It’s called the ABT Power upgrade and it increases horsepower by 20 percent, giving it a healthy 240 hp via ECU tune. That may not sound like a lot but it’s a decent amount of power for such a little car. It also bumps torque to 265 lb-ft, which is almost the same as a standard Audi A4 in the ‘States. So it’s got some punch.

In addition to the ABT Power upgrade, you can also get ABT lowering springs and 18-inch wheels, which can be packaged with the engine tune for around 3,800 Euros. The lowering springs lower the ride height by 25 mm to 30 mm and give the car a much more aggressive stance. The wheels can also be ordered in matte black or gloss black.

For just under €4,000, the ABT Sportsline upgrade kit seems like a good deal for the Audi A1. It improves acceleration, handling and styling without compromising on durability or reliability. Hell, it’s probably just as fuel efficient as the standard car. So you can have a small little city car that’s easy to park but also fun to drive. The standard Audi A1 is a nippy little car but it’s not exactly thrilling. This upgrade from ABT can get it closer to what an Audi S1 would have been if Audi ever decided to make it.
