Audi 3.0 TDI engine powers the Raptor Diesel GT personal aircraft

U.S.-based Raptor Aircraft is selling a personal aircraft called Raptor Diesel GT which can be equipped with an Audi engine. This is a five-seat, pressurized aircraft manufactured from composite materials and capable of reaching a top speed of 300 knots. It comes equipped with anti-lock brakes, a constant speed reversing propeller and a BRS airframe parachute, but what really makes it interesting is the choice of the engine.

The base version comes fitted with a Fiat 1.9 TDI engine but those who are willing to pay more can upgrade to the Audi 3.0 TDI engine which enables the model to return 29 mpg. Taking into account the plane’s fuel tank has a 150 gallon capacity, this means the Raptor Diesel GT will be able to fly for around 20 hours and cover as much as 5,000 miles.

Raptor Aircraft says their product is not fully commercially available just yet and they can tweak the 272 hp 3.0 TDI engine by implementing a remapped ECU which will bump output to as much as 310 hp.

It will be interesting to see the aircraft’s price tag with the Audi-sourced 3.0 TDI engine and hopefully the company will shed some light regarding this matter soon.
