APR releases tuning kits for Audi R8 V10

It’s not often you hear Audi R8 V10 owners want for more power. In standard guise, the current R8 V10 makes a very healthy 540 hp and is good for 0-60 mph in about 3.4 seconds. However, APR has now released two different tuning kits for the R8, for those who are in need for even more of an adrenaline rush.

The two APR tuning kits are actually for the R8’s 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10 engine and not necessarily for the Audi R8 itself. So they can be used with any iteration of the current V10, whether it be in the R8 or even in the Lamborghini Huracan. Compatible models include: Audi R8 V10, R8 V10 Plus, R8 V10 RSW, Lamborghini Huracán RWD LP580-2 and Huracán LP610-4.

APR’s Stage 1 ECU upgrade is the main tuning kit here and it bumps power to  634-653 HP and 420-427 FT-LBS of torque, depending on fuel used. Not only that but it also adds left-foot braking capability, removes the speed limiter and allows the engine to rev to 9,000 rpm. That’s right, 9,000 rpm.

Also included in the Stage 1 ECU tune, per APR, is “fully adjusted thermal management, optimized throttle, intake and exhaust flaps, lambda control, port/DI splitting, cam phasing, more aggressive ignition timing and an update to the factory power and torque gauges.” There are also four switchable program modes for the ECU, which include a Valet mode and a Quiet Cold-Start mode.

The other tuning kit mentioned is called APR Plus and it’s essentially the same thing just with a limited powertrain warranty that matches the original OEM one and is available through all authorized APR dealers in the US. It’s extremely helpful that APR offers that because tuning a high-strung naturally-aspirated engine to rev to 9,000 rpm and make over 600 hp can be nerve-wracking for many owners. The warranty brings piece of mind.
