Antonio Banderas to play Ferruccio Lamborghini in upcoming Biopic

As you may know, Audi acquired the famous Italian supercar maker, Lamborghini, a few years ago. Ever since, the two brands have worked together to develop some of the best supercars on the road (Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan). Ferruccio Lamborghini, the founder of the famous brand, would likely be proud of what it’s become today. The Sant’Agata-based brand also recently celebrated what would have been Ferruccio’s 100th birthday recently. To honor the man, a film is being made about his life, based on a biographical book written by Ferruccio’s son, Tonino. In the upcoming Biopic, Ferruccio will be played by Antonio Banderas, which I’m sure Ferruccio would be happy about.

One of the central themes surrounding Lamborghini’s life, once he started making supercars, was his beef with Enzo Ferrari. Ferruccio didn’t start making supercars until after he made a suggestion to old man Ferrari himself about his cars. Enzo wasn’t having a tractor-maker throw shade at his thoroughbreds, so he basically told Ferruccio where he could stick his suggestions. Upset by this, Lamborghini set out to develop his own cars and he did. This beef between Ferruccio and Enzo will also be one of the central themes of the movie and Enzo will be played by Alec Baldwin, who’s becoming quite popular for his impersonations.

“My book ‘Ferruccio Lamborghini, La storia ufficiale’ (The official story) is the only text perfectly respectful of the real life of my father,” said Tonino, “despite numerous legends and anecdotes written or told by other people looking for a moment of celebrity.”

Ferruccio was not only one of the most iconic and interesting men in all of automotive history but he was also one of the most important. The Miura was the world’s first mid-engine supercar and set the tone for an entire automotive segment moving forward. His V12-powered cars would forever be the benchmark for supercar performance and the favorites for childhood bedroom posters. Even people who know nothing about anything, when it comes to cars, know of the Lamborghini name. The upcoming film is currently titled, Lamborghini — The Legend. Fitting.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
