Alfa Romeo has staged the world debut of its all-new Giulia QV last night at a special event in Milan. We will have to wait whether it will be a worthy competitor for the Audi RS4, but it does seem to be quite promising with that very aggressive compact body and enough power to match the looks. Underneath that vented hood is a Ferrari-derived six-cylinder turbocharged engine that pushes out a massive 510 PS so it’s a lot more powerful than the 450 PS provided by the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine inside the RS4.
It’s substantially quicker too as the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) task is done in a mere 3.9 seconds whereas the RS4 needs an extra 0.8s. While the high-performance Audi is available exclusively with a quattro all-wheel drive system, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) will be offered in both rear- and all-wheel drive guises.
Perhaps the comparison between the two models is not entirely relevant since the RS4 has now been discontinued and will be replaced in the years to come by a whole new model which will eschew the normally aspirated V8 in favor of a six-cylinder turbo motor which will not only be substantially more powerful, but also economical as well.
