This new generation of Audi RS6 Avant is the near perfect daily driver. It’s brutally fast, great looking, has a fantastic interior and a ton of cargo space. The only thing that it could really use is a better sound. While the RS6’s 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 sounds good, it’s also a bit calm for such a powerful performance machine. Thankfully, the lovely people from Akrapovic have come to help.
Akrapovic is one of the best makers of exhausts on the planet, potentially the best, and it has been developing Audi exhausts for ages now. For the Audi RS6 Avant, the new Akrapvic exhaust sounds fantastic; it’s just a bit louder than stock but has a nicer tone and more of a growl to it. So it sounds much more aggressive.
On their site, you can hear the difference between stock unit and the Akrapivic one and the differences are vast. Admittedly, it’s frustrating that the Audi RS6 Avant can only rev to 4,000 rpm while stationary, while most other cars can rev to redline at a stand still. So while we don’t get to hear its true potential, it immediately sounds much better than the factory exhaust.
And remember, this isn’t even the best it will sound. In Europe, all cars have new OPF exhaust particulate filters that reduce emissions but also muffle sound. So from the factory, even though it has damn near 600 horsepower, the Audi RS6 Avant sounds extra flat in Europe.
It adds some power, too. According to Akrapovic, the new exhaust adds about 15 horsepower, which is substantial just from an exhaust. You won’t notice that power difference while driving but it all adds up, especially if your tuning the car.
Personally, I wouldn’t fit any exhaust to my Audi RS6 Avant unless it was a top-notch system from one of the best brands. The RS6 is just too good of a car to fool around with cheap brands. Thankfully, Akrapovic’s new system for the RS6 Avant sounds great and comes from one of the best brands.
